Shelley Petersen (nee Monrad)

Principal of Aromatic Medicine Institute (formally known as Aromaflex Academy) and founder of Aromaflex (the shop www.aromaflex.co.nz). Still passionate about plant science and how it works with modern medicine. Qualifications not limited to, spanning over 30 years in SP Dip Aromatherapy, AMA Dip Reflexology MIFPA (UK), ITEC (UK); MNZROHA, MNZIR, Diploma in Aromatic Medicine & Diploma in Tertiary Teaching. Loves her family and community, formulating and pondering on more spiritual matters on how it relates to our health and wellbeing for all.

Bev Fockenga

Bev is a qualified obstetric nurse, Aromatherapist and Sports Massage practitioner. Bev teaches the Anatomy & Physiology & Pathology course in Nelson for the last 7 years, and moderates our students progress in this subject. Bev is a massage therapist at home and does workplace massage in corporate environments. Bev also works with the elderly in a retirement village as an relieving area co-ordinator. She is an advent tramper, and walker, does Thai Chi and happily married with 2 young adult children. Surrounded by many friends and family in the North and overseas in Germany which require regular yearly visits.

Christine Burn

Tutor. Aromaflex Diploma in Aromatherapy. MNZROHA, National Certificate in Adult Teaching. Responsible for Aromatherapy & Aromascience student assignments and teaching various Aromatherapy classes. Christine is a keen tramper and loves her garden. Christine has been part of Aromatic Medicine Institute for over 14 years and is dedicated to her students and their progress. Has an amazing knowledge of essential oils and blending, including perfumery.

Ashley Ashton

BSc, Dip. Tchg.  Married to Bethany and we have 7 children.  A registered secondary school teacher in New Zealand and have taught Science, Biology and Chemistry.  Currently employed in the Electrical industry here in Nelson.  Love the outdoors and have a wide range of interests.  Have a keen and active interest in health issues and believe society has much to gain and learn from the alternative therapies.

Marci Rowe

Aromatic Formulator. Has many years in developing and creating New Zealands’ own Manuka and Kanuka products.  Grown in the sounds, Marci and her family cultivate and prepare NZ natives in formulations for the public that they sell at the local market and in many leading shops around NZ.  Qualified in massage, Marci has been teaching our product making classes for over 15 years.

Bridgette Masters

Qualified in Aromatherapy and Reflexology. Our new enrolment officer and administration support.  Bridgette has a wealth of knowledge in IT and administration.  She is also currently the secretary for the NZ Governing Body of Aromatherapy, NZROHA.

Sally Escandila

Behind the scenes Sally works on administration documents. Been a long term user of Aromatherapy products and has loved and used many over the years, especially on the ships where she used to work, prior to COVID-19.

Leanne Cappiello

Qualified in Aromatherapy. NZQA Dip Aroma, 2001. A quiet woman, ready to answer any questions to aromatherapy formulations, blending and the like.
